Technologies exist for the production of flexible and strong packaging materials from macroalgae.

The non-degradability of plastic materials and the lack of large-scale recycling infrastructure for these materials are the cause of large environmental problems. To respond to them, product packaging materials made from natural macro-algae polymers seem to be an interesting alternative.
